By: SVS Categories: Reviews and Awards

Set in Pemberton, Western Australia, Silkwood Estate has earned a reputation for its high quality wines in the past few years. Their winemaking is aimed at capturing the specific varietal characteristics for which Western Australia’s Pemberton region is known.

For this reason, it’s not a surprise that Silkwood Estate Bowman Reserve wines received high ratings from critics, with a 95-point golden award.

The Silkwood Bowman Chardonay 2019 and The Bowman Pinot Noir 2019 in particular are worth mentioning, and for this reason we decided to bring you what the critics have to say about them.

The Reviews

The Silkwood Bowman Chardonay 2019

95 points- Patrick Eckel, Winepilot

silkwood bowman 2019 chardonay“…wines like this show why with its steely acid backbone and quite serious complexity. Pale in colour, the wine opens with understated aromas of melon and florals well supported by malty French oak and nougat complexity. The palate is more savoury, with citrus and crushed nut flavours again over a bed of French oak. Bright acidity also gives impact and helps to drive a fine and very long finish. It’s a very impressive example of Great Southern Chardonnay

The Bowman Pinot Noir 2019

93 points – Angus Hughson, Winepilot

“Crafting classy pinot noir can be hard work with this variety particularly fussy about where and how it is grown. The key is a cool climate which in Western Australia means Great Southern. Here the nearby Southern Ocean keeps the heat at bay, even in the middle of Summer. It also helps to create some super-savoury pinot noirs. This example is mid cherry red in colour with layers of earthy aromas – autumn leaves, spice and soil under which sits sweet red cherry and toasty oak. It is followed by an acid driven palate – green herb and stalky flavours over red fruits with a slight meaty edge. It’s complex for sure and suits early drinking.”
