“Le Grand Verdus is living proof that there is such a thing as a great terroir in Entre- Deux-Mers,” says Antoine Le Grix de la Salle. He comments that the winery’s main asset is the diversity of its terroir, which encompasses numerous microclimates, variations in altitude and fertile vineyards.
The history of Le Grand Verdus wine is also that of the Château, which dates from the Renaissance, and of the Le Grix de la Salle family, who decided after World War II to grow their modest vineyard into a successful winery.
Antoine and his son Thomas now run the winery. Their ethos is that the right terroir is not enough, it is just as important to know how to get the best out of it. The three generations, from Philippe to Thomas, work constantly on improving the quality of their wines, each bringing his own experience of winemaking techniques and natural inclination. Their production is focused on respecting the values of the land, seeking above all optimal grape quality, excellent vine health and maturity.
