In July, 2009, Sophie and Fabrice Laronze decided to reunite their previous work experiences and create the Domaine des Terres de Velle in Auxey-Duresses: a worthy challenge in Burgundy, where one generally becomes a wine maker only by family inheritance.

This old 19th century mill, sitting on its charming river, offered numerous assets. In particular its setting in the heart of the Domaines des Terres 6 hectares of vineyards – all in the Côte de Beaune.

Husband & wife winemakers Sophie and Fabrice Laronze learned year after year that the work of the vine and wine is constant.

At Domaine des Terres de Velle, each of them comes from different backgrounds but are united around the same Passion : working heart and soul to help each of their wines express to the maximum this unique “climat”.

A Mosaic of Wine Personalities

Domaines des Terres is a true Burgundian-style “mosaic” of wines. Every year, they produce 16 different wines, each from grapes harvested on their own 6 hectares.
The 35 000 bottles they produce each year are 50% Burgundian Chardonnay, 10% Aligoté (white wines) and 40% Pinot Noir (red wines).

The Region of Burgundy, France

Burgundy is a major wine-producing region in France. It is well-known for both red and white wines, which are primarily made from Pinot noir and Chardonnay grapes, respectively, while other grape varieties such as Gamay, Aligote, Pinot blanc, and Sauvignon blanc can also be found.

The Côte-d’Or, which contains the rarest and highest prized Burgundies, is separated into Beaujolais, Chablis, the Côte Chalonnaise, and Mâcon. The high demand and high costs of top wines have evolved from their reputation and quality, as well as the fact that they are often produced in small quantities, with some Burgundies ranking among the most unique wines in the world.
