Mount Barker is home to the original star of the Great Southern - Plantagenet. Decades before Great Southern was recognised for its quality Plantagenet was a lone voice for exceptional wines. In 2019 James Kellie has again shown that in the right season Mount Barker can make the highest quality wines. It's an explosive and exotic Riesling style, with cantelope, mandarin skin and lime scented fruits. It is dry, mid-weight and textural with wet stone complexity and without quite the typical juicy acid seen from Great Southern which makes for a delicious more early drinking wine.95 pts - Patrick Eckel (Wine Reviewer)
A light yellow in the glass, the nose has an understated creaminess to fresh lime and jasmine. The hallmark of the 2019 releases from Harewood Estate is the tantalisingly pure acidity that gives focus and direction to the wine; there is a suggestion of musk and meyer lemon on the mid palate with driving length of citrus fruits and a faint ginger edge to finish. Very impressive value.
