The Italian red variety, Teroldego, may not be a household name in Australian drinking circles just yet, but for those for whom DNA and genetics hold an interest, this variety is the uncle (or possibly aunt, if you prefer) of the much more famous Shiraz/Syrah. Bright crimson in colour, we have notes of plums, herbs, roast meats, warm earth, soy and aniseed. A softish palate with fine tannins, focus and length. The wine really lifts on the palate and we see flavours of licorice and coffee grinds emerge. Enjoy this now, but if it can spend a few years in the cellar, it should look even better in five or six years’ time.
90 pts - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)Dark cherry, blackcurrant, slightly earthy and spicy, a coffee bean thing happening too. It’s medium-bodied, it has the fresh glassy acidity of the grape variety, forest berries and dried herbs, firm powdery tannin, and a finish of good length. Nice wine all up. Easy to enjoy.
