Gold & Best of Show - Mundus Vini Spring Tasting 2025
93 pts - Kim Brebach (BWU20)Nero is Sicily’s major red grape. It offers cherries and plums, licorice, tobacco and dried herbs with some smoked meat thrown in for good measure. It’s smooth and soft on the palate with a fine acidity guiding it to the clean finish. Good drinking alreay and a bargain at this price.
92 pts - Ken Gargett (Wine Pilot)A cracking value Italian red that would be perfect for a Friday night in front of the footy, with a good pizza or bowl of pasta. Sounds like heaven. From Sicily, it is easy to see why this variety is gaining a very solid foothold here in Australia, both with imported and local examples. This is a stunning crimson garnet in colour. Supple in texture, with juicy acidity and serious length, the wine has sleek tannins and good persistence. There are notes of red fruits here, with redcurrants, cherries, a touch of warm earth, exotic spices and dried herbs, kirsch, plums and mushrooms. Enjoy this any time over the next half dozen years.
