Sourced from vineyards on clay/limestone soils in the south of France, this is from the House of Jean Loren. A French Pinot Noir which does not require the necessity of condemning your children to lifelong servitude is always something to be applauded. Gleaming blood red in colour, it is red fruits to the fore with appealing aromas of cherries and raspberries. We also have notes of herbs, mushrooms and spices. There is a lovely texture here, through to fine, satiny tannins and the wine has good length. Those cherry notes are also very evident on the palate. An attractive Pinot Noir for enjoying over the next three to five years. As with its sibling, the Chardonnay, a slight step up on last year for me.
91 pts - Jeni Port (Wine Pilot)Comes alive in cherry and spice and that’s probably enough to make me want to buy a bottle, but let’s look a little further into this French Pinot. There is a depth of flavour that stays with you, a warm embrace of cherry, cranberry, spiced plum, tomato leaf, dried herbs and a hint of floral rosehip. As you get into it, there is an earthiness, a simple but attractive layer, that goes hand in hand with the herbals. Good, all round drinking enjoyment.
