Surely this is one of the great bargains, not just for Riesling, in Australian wine. As much as I thoroughly enjoyed the previous vintage of this Mount Barker Riesling, this is a serious step up. Love it. The colour is a pale lemon/green, while the nose is full of florals, lemon curd, zesty citrus, minerally notes, a flick of nectarine and hints of honeycomb on the finish. The wine has superb balance and exemplary length, while offering an intriguing textural aspect. Very fine in structure with a lingering finish, enjoy this for the next ten to fifteen years.

This year has produced a sturdy wine with more body than usual but plenty of mineral acidity to keep it tidy. Great food wine. People think Mount Barker is cool climate – it’s not: the summers get hot down there. 94 points. Buy.
