Lovely yellow fruits, salt spray, bright and vibrant, textural.
92 pts - Ken Gargett (Wine Pilot)Picpoul Blanc is anything but a mainstream variety in this country, or pretty much any other country as well, for that matter. That, of course, doesn’t mean that it can’t offer some seriously impressive wines and this is a thoroughly enjoyable example. Sakara is a festival of cherry blossoms held in Cowra annually, to celebrate the connections between that town and Japan, which dates back to the local prisoner-of-war camp in World War Two. Lemon/green in colour, the nose offers notes of florals, spices, crisp green apples, limes and minerals. It is well balanced and there is excellent intensity throughout, which is maintained for the full journey. A wine of medium length, this is a very good example of an emerging variety and definitely one to keep an eye on. It would be perfect with freshly grilled fish. Enjoy the next four years.
