Bonny Doon, which is now considered a powerhouse that is integrap to the US wine industry where Randell Graham had successfully created an original wine that catered to the warm Mediterranean climate. The whole idea of the brand came to be through the multiple failed attempts of creating the greatest pinot noir in the United States. Graham started to blend the delicate Rhone grapes with blended wine until they released their first vintage. He was a great believer of creating a wine that reflects the place where the vineyard is, which reflects how he felt about larger companies buying from smaller companies and selling wine under their name.

The vineyard resides at Santa Cruz and is considered as one of the first wineries to embrace grapes that were cultivated locally. In 1994, the vineyard was destroyed and Graham was pushed to the purchase grapes from other nearby vineyards and Europe. The vineyard was able to turn the unfortunate situation to get over 450,000 cases of wine. Bonny Doon was on their road of success and ended up with highly successful brands – Big House, Cardinal Zin and Pacific Rim.

Graham, despite the number of times he had spent growing the business took a step back and sold off the larger brands (Big House, Cardinal Zin and Pacific Rim). He stayed true to his “terroir” when he realised that the company had started to diverge a great amount from the direction, he wanted to sail his ship. He sold the entire company to WarRooms Ventures LLC in 2020 but remains as a partner and a winemaker. As of today, the vineyard produces only 4 wines, which are all Rhone variants – just like how Randell wanted!
