Victoire Lafayette 1777 is an export project created by Meyblum & Fils in Montpellier, France. The company has come a long way since 1862 when the Meyblum family first became involved in selling wines and spirits. Today, Erik Meyblum is following in the footsteps of four generations of wine merchants who have combined their global perspective with strong Alsace roots. They embrace both tradition and innovation and use cutting-edge winemaking and maturation techniques to ensure that the wines are of the highest standard.
The wine is named after the honourable, historic figure Marquis de Lafayette, who was a French aristocrat and military officer. Marquis de Lafayette fought in the American Revolutionary War, commanding American troops in several battles. He joined the “Victoire” ship departing to America in 1777, and this wine honors this occasion and date. After returning to France, Marquis de Lafayette became a key figure in the French Revolution of 1789 and the July Revolution of 1830. He has been considered a national hero, both in the United States and France.
Victoire Lafayette 1777 is a Blanc de Blancs that is made using the Charmat method. It is a crisp sparkling with wheat colour tints and clear, fine bubbles. This well-balanced and food-friendly wine is ideal for festive occasions and is excellent value for money.
