Quite classy and carefully composed, showing attractive aromas of peaches, apples, honey and touches of honeysuckle. Delicious on the palate, with a silky mousse.

He created a partnership with the region to ensure that every bottle that leaves the warehouse is created with the highest grade of grape

Champagne Montaudon Brut:

93 pts – Angus Hughson (Wine Pilot)

Established in 1891, Champagne Montaudon is at the bargain end of Champagne, and offers particularly good value for money. It is a pinot dominant style – with pinot noir and pinot meunier making up 75% of the blend. What makes it standout is the exceptional balance of bright and youthful fruits with a nice touch of aged French pastry complexity. The wine is bright mid straw and is reserved with attractive strawberry and citrus fruits plus praline complexity from aged reserve wines. It is then dry and fresh in the mouth, mid-weight and given impact thanks to that zesty acidity. There is good length to finish too with a solid dose of aged pinot toastiness adding impressive complexity for a wine at this price.

Vignerons de l’Enclave ‘La Resistance’

Produced in parcels across the southern Rhone valley (actually around Avignon to Mont Ventoux), where Grenache is the king of grapes (rather than Syrah in the north). All wines are fermented in small stainless steel tanks. Soil type is chalky-clay-alluvial (Rhone river and Aygues river sedimentary). This is a distinct advantage for Grenache because the additional water retention of the vine roots in clay soil avoids severe drought – but allows enough hydric stress for sugar levels to optimise.

La Resistance Organic Rouge:

92 pts – Angus Hughson, Wine Pilot

Some of the winemakers in the Rhône Valley are saying 2019 is one of the best vintages in the last 30 years – that is a very big call. However wines like this suggest they may be right on the money as, despite its moderate price, it packs a serious punch both in the power and complexity stakes. Deeply coloured for a Côtes du Rhône, there are intense dark berry aromas but what lurks behind is best of all; tar, liquorice plus roasted meat and soy sauce. It then takes a rustic turn on the palate with more charcuterie and and white pepper flavours plus balanced chewy tannins. The wine fades a bit to finish but still delivers plenty of personality for the price.

La Resistance Organic Rose:

Beautiful light pink, with delicate aromas of soft summer fruits. Full flavoured, refreshing on the palate with a lingering finish of ripe raspberries. Delicious as an aperitif. Perfect accompaniment to starters, salads and barbecues. Service temperature between 10 and 12°C.

Cellier des Dauphins

The Cellier de Dauphins brand name literally means the wine cellar of the heirs to France’s throne.

Created in 1967, the Cellier de Dauphins brand is the benchmark for the Rhone Valley region. The diversity of vineyard plots gives the winemakers a wide range of grapes to select from to make their flagship wines that are high quality and represent the Southern Rhone Valley region style.

Val du Soleu Organic Rose:

91 pts – Ken Gargett (Wine Pilot)

Rosé from Provence in the south of France is one of the world’s most popular wines and, when done well, it is so easy to see why. It is not just the images it creates, the way it transports you around the world, but also the joy in each glass. An organic wine, this blend is 80% Grenache and 20% Cinsault. An attractive gentle neon pink, the nose is redolent with fresh strawberries, spices, red berries and florals plus a touch of citrus in the mix and cherries on the finish. Good focus throughout with decent length, there is a bright, clean and cleansing finish. Drink now, though it will suffer no harm if it does spend a year or two in the cellar.

Cellier des Dauphins Les Dauphins Rouge:

A decidedly southern style of wine with a bright garnet hue, a reflection of the sun-drenched terroirs from which it hails. It boasts a seductively smooth structure and notes of ripe, jammy fruit. The palate is silky smooth with notes of liquorice and vanilla.

Dominique Roger

In the vineyards Dominique chooses to work the soils constantly, allowing the roots to extend into the limestone mother rock. Herbicides and pesticides are never used and the grapes are only hand harvested – a practice that is becoming increasingly rare in Sancerre. This high altitude growth of Sauvignon Blanc boasts all three of the region’s famed soil types: terres blanches, caillotes, and an enviable percentage of silex.

Dominique Roger Domaine du Carrou ‘Sancerre’ Rose:

93 pts – Huon Hooke, The Real Review

Light-salmon to coral-pink colour, fresh and subtly fragrant to sniff, with traces of strawberry jam and quince paste. The wine is intense yet delicate in the mouth, with long carry and good vitality, due in part to bright acidity, the finish cleansing and refreshingly dry. It’s very lip-smacking and demands food.

Dominique Roger Domaine du Carrou ‘Sancerre’ La Jouline:

95 pts – Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

Light-mid yellow, bright and buttery nose, a barrel fermented style with some work done on it. Perhaps some malolactic also. Full in the mouth, rich and deep with piercing minerally stony nuances. Long carry. A superb wine with lots of dimensions to it.

Domaine des Terres de Velle

In July, 2009, Sophie and Fabrice Laronze decided to reunite their previous work experiences and create the Domaine des Terres de Velle in Auxey-Duresses: a worthy challenge in Burgundy, where one generally becomes a wine maker only by family inheritance. This old 19^th century mill, sitting on its charming river, offered numerous assets. Its setting in the heart of the Domaines des Terres 6 hectares of vineyards, in the Côte de Beaune.

Domaine des Terres de Velle Volnay Ez Blanches:

94 pts Jamie Goode (Wine Anorak)

On top of the hill in Volnay, above Clos de Chene. Lots of limestone in the soil: white stones. Floral, lively nose with nervy red cherry fruit. Supple and elegant on the palate with fresh red cherries and plums, as well as some nice structure and good acidity. Has a brightness and good tannin, but also a lightness from the low extraction approach. Potential for development.

Bourgogne Côte d’Or Pinot Noir:

This wine associates true fruit freshness with delicate tannins. The nose offers aromas of fresh red berries …. The mouth is structured, expressive and asks to be drunk!

Nuiton-Beaunoy

The Nuiton-Beaunoy wines are prestigious and exceptional wines that develop their character in the best climates of the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits, treating us to the quintessential Pinot Noir and Chardonnay experience. Grown on the famous slopes of the villages in the Burgundy region, the vines produce some exceptional and inimitable wines.

Nuiton-Beaunoy ‘Pommard’ Rouge:

96 pts – Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

Medium-deep red-purple colour; aromas of dried herbs, dry grass and dried mushrooms overlying dark cherries; the wine is quite full in the mouth with abundant flavour and backed by firm tannins. It’s a touch grippy on its own but would work much better with appropriate food. There’s a lovely deep core of sweet ripe dark cherry fruit. A solid Burgundy with ageing potential.

Nuiton Beaunoy ‘Maranges’ Rouge:

92 pts – Ken Gargett (Wine Pilot)

From the Côte de Beaune region in Burgundy, this offers good buying for a wine from the illustrious golden slopes. Purple/magenta in hue, the nose is bursting with big bold black cherries. There are also notes of plums, milk chocolate, mulberries, licorice, black fruits and well-integrated oak. Hints of sour cherries emerge on the palate, especially towards the finish, with juicy acidity. Surprisingly long, I like this a lot and it is a joy to drink now and any time over the next three to five years.

La Maison Jean Loron

The story begins more than 300 years ago with Jean Loron in the village of Chénas, in the heart of the steep hills of Beaujolais. Situated between the Rock of Solutré in Mâconnais and Moulin-à-Vent in Beaujolais, the Maison Jean Loron is one of the oldest and largest vineyard owners in the south of Burgundy. Its wine-growing history dates back to 1711.

Maison Jean Loron Pouilly Fuisse BIO ‘La Coronile’:

92 pts – Ken Gargett (Wine Pilot)

The interest in fine white Burgundy has seen wines such as this Pouilly Fuisse come into their own. The great regions are in massive demand and are now at prices ordinary mortals can only dream of meeting. Up and coming districts are offering fine examples at much more manageable costs. This wine is a deep yellow gold. The nose is restrained, focused and elegant with subtle cashews and stonefruits. Balanced, layered and offering a pleasing texture, there is gentle length here which lingers appealingly with hints of apricot emerging on the palate. Drink now and over the next five years where there is certainly room for further improvement over that period.

Vignoble des 2 Lunes

The Vignoble des 2 Lunes estate has been owned and operated by the Buecher family for the last 7 generations. Since 2009, the estate has been ran by Amélie and Cécile Buecher, the first female head winemakers to run the family winery. The two have brought their own vision to the company, balancing between modernization and a respect for tradition.

Vignoble des 2 Lunes Pinot Blanc ‘Apogee’:

91 pts – Angus Hughson (Wine Pilot)

This Alsatian Pinot Blanc starts a little shy but comes good with time in the glass. It opens up with quite classic chalky, citrus aromas with admirable purity of fruit. It then builds more richness in the mouth, with exotic pear and orange peel flavours rising up supported by a creamy texture with more earthy nuances coming through right on the finish. It’s quite hearty, and best with rich dishes such as Quiche Lorraine.

Vignoble des 2 Lunes Riesling ‘Genese’:

92 pts – Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

Full yellow, buttered toast and honey bouquet of a mature wine, primary riesling fruit character subordinate. Very attractive aged wine, the finish dry and emphatic with a touch of tannin grip in harmony with the whole.

Grands Domains GIN, VODKA

The Abecassis family has set up an admirable collection of estates producing exceptionnal Cognacs. With 915 acres of vineyards, Domaines Francis Abécassis is one of the largest land owners within the Cognac appellation. Each estate is located on a privileged site, particularly well exposed to the sun and perfectly orientated. The chalky soils, -Champagne type-, are keys to provide eaux-de-vie with elegance and excellent ageing potential.

Grands Domaines Organic “Gin Bio”:

Beautiful shine enhanced with discreet straw highlights. An elegant nose in the image of the estates, characterized by a subtle and delicate presence of juniper berries. It also contains notes of citrus, lemon, brought to the gin through the eau-de-vie. The taste is characterized by a powerful attack marked by notes of juniper berries. Then citrus notes immediately bring delicacy to the mouth.

The vodka’s colour is cristal clear. Wheat grain notes associated with lemon and peppery notes. Delicate and sweet. Its roundness associated with controlled power reveals its purity. Spicy and sweet notes, citrus zest, and flowers extend this tasting.

Old golden amber colour. A nose marked by the typical aromas of old cognacs, rancio and spices. The taste is elegant and has a great finesse, the wooden and fruity flavours are perfectly balanced.

Old gold colour. Aromatic complexity where aromas of cedar wood, candied fruits, and honey intermingle. The aromas of candied fruits, cinnamon and wood bring a great length and an incomparable wealth. With a finish of a great flexibility, supported by notes of lemon, cigar box and orange.
