Highgate Sparkling Chardonnay-Pinot Noir Cuvee Brut

Pale straw in colour with elegant lively bubbles.
Green apples and citrus supported by creaminess.
Chardonnay gives the wine a creamy, round mouth feel with some nice citrusy characters while the Pinot Noir adds some acidity allowing the wine to finish clean, crisp, refreshing and so good to share.
Very well suited to canapes on a sunny day. Excellent first drink of the day.

“Universally praised by all judges and the undisputed winner. This wine is a picture of elegance showing subtle detailed floral fruits well-matched by brioche complexity, finishing fine and long.”

What is Cuvée Brut?

Cuvée

When it comes to wine, the term “cuvée” is used in a variety of ways:

  • to indicate that the wine is of a special blend or batch. The term cuvée comes from cuve, which means vat or tank ;
  • to suggest a specific blend, such as wine produced from different vineyards or;
  • to refer to the best grape juice obtained through the gentle pressing of the grapes to produce sparkling wine the traditional way;

Both sparkling and still wines can be referred to as cuvée. In short, the term cuvée, as in “cuvée speciale” or “tête de cuvée,” has been used in wine labels to signify greater quality since it is used to designate special or chosen wine.

Cuvée is a term used in Champagne to describe the first pressed or most desirable grape juice used in the methode champenoise, or Champagne method, of making sparkling wines. Cuvée is a term used outside of Champagne to describe a specific blend of wine that incorporates more than one grape variety.

Brut
Brut” is one of the sparkling wine classifications depending on the amount of sugar in the wine. Brut indicates wine that has no hint of sweetness.
Brut is the most prevalent form of sparkling wine and contains no more than 12 grammes of residual sugar per litre.
From the driest to the sweetest, below is the classification of sparkling wines based on sweetness level:
  • Ultra Brut
  • Brut
  • Extra Dry/ Extra Sec – slightly sweet due to the residual sugar content of 12-17 grammes per litre.
  • Demi-Sec — sweet with 32-50 grammes of residual sugar per litre
  • Doux – the sweetest, with residual sugar level of 50 grammes per litre.
