Look For The Red M

By: Justine Teal Categories: Wines, Champagne

The Montaudon family’s connection to Champagne began in 1891, with Auguste-Louis, a cellar master at Epernay. The family passion for Champagne making was passed down from generation to generation, as Montaudon became a name to be reckoned with in Champagne. Auguste-Louis’s son, Auguste-Eugène, combined this tradition with his entrepreneurial spirit, and found Champagne Montaudon.

The generations to come expanded the brand by building up a network of close partnerships in the Champagne region, signing various winegrowers to ensure a stable supply of top-quality grapes, as well as boosting the company’s domestic and international reputation to help establish Montaudon as a name that Champagne lovers worldwide know and trust.

Today, Champagne Montaudon is as committed as ever to preserving and perpetuating this ancestral tradition of excellence. The Montaudon values have remained the same- sharing, conviviality, and indulgence. The classic style and rich heritage of House Montaudon are still in evidence in every bottle produced. Through four generations, the large red M on their label has signified ‘Les Grands Moments,’ moments of celebration, moments of emotion, of generosity, sharing and elegance. Look for
the Champagne with the red M- the unMistakable promise of a truly special moment!

The Wine

NV Champagne Montaudon Brut

93 pts – Angus Hughson (Wine Pilot): Established in 1891, Champagne Montaudon is at the bargain end of Champagne, and offers particularly good value for money. It is a pinot dominant style – with pinot noir and pinot meunier making up 75% of the blend. What makes it standout is the exceptional balance of bright and youthful fruits with a nice touch of aged French pastry complexity. The wine is bright mid straw and is reserved with attractive strawberry and citrus fruits plus praline complexity from aged reserve wines. It is then dry and fresh in the mouth, mid-weight and given impact thanks to that zesty acidity. There is good length to finish too with a solid dose of aged pinot toastiness adding impressive complexity for a wine at this price.
