Intense nougat, buttery shortbread, iced pastry, a hint of chardonnay parsnip and a trace of bruised apple—ample aromas, the palate echoing this with richness and generosity, but still tightened and firmed by acidity and gentle grip that dry the finish. Liqueuring level seems on the high side for a prestige blanc de blancs, but there is plenty to like in this wine, if rather expensive.
95 pts - Andrew Graham (Oz Wine Review)Villers-Marmery is a cru on the east side of the Montagne de Reims (literally the mountain south of Reims). It’s a very cool and frosty, east-facing area that Sébastien believes makes ‘sharp Champagne’. But 2016 was warm enough that the plot for this wine had it perfectly, and the growers thought that in 2016, this plot was the winner. Fantastic length and purity here – such appley definition. It doesn’t have that custard apple richness, but it has superstar length and angular glory. Gee it’s long. This is a superstar defined Champagne, which is very much my wheelhouse.
