A very fine vintage for this Tuscan red, the wine is bottled under cork. The colour is a dark cherry/maroon. On the nose we have an array of aromas weaving through roast meats, warm earth, dried herbs, tomato bushes and raspberries. There is juicy acidity here and the wine is of medium length. There is an attractive plushness to the texture. Very attractive drinking now and should remain so for at least the next six to ten years.
91 pts - Jeni Port (Wine Pilot)A wine with time on its mind. The term, Riserva, indicates extended time in oak (two years, by law) and, on tasting, Astrale wouldn’t say no to more cellaring time. Or, if opening soon, give your glass a few good swishes of air to release its full, inner Sangiovese savouriness. Shows an earthy sheen of briar, twig, undergrowth and crushed herbs against ripe, black berries and red fruits with dark earthy tannins cutting a straight line across the palate. Structure is firm and acidity lends added freshness to the generous black and red fruits, spice and herbs. Opens up well with air.
