This weekend The Real Review released their Top Wineries of Australia 2023 and Eisenstone came in at a very impressive number four! The list, which features about 350 of Australia’s best wineries, is based off the 10,000+ wines The Real Review team has tasted over the last year.

In a podcast interview with The Wine Show Australia, Huon Hooke stated that Eisenstone’s Barossa Valley Shiraz wines are “some of the best wines coming out of the Barossa right now,” and “if you can get your hands on them, you should really try these wines.”

This past year, Eisentone’s Barossa Shiraz wines have had an impressive run of critical acclaim including an outstanding 99-point review from Huon Hooke at The Real Review and a 98-point review from Andrew Caillard at the Global Fine Wine Challenge for the 2020 Eisenstone Hoffmann Shiraz SV902, just to name a couple.

Stephen Cook, the winemaker behind Eisenstone, produces single vineyard and single sub-region wines, producing each wine in the same method, letting the vineyards speak for themselves. He is renowned for producing full-bodied, powerful wines with amazing depth of flavour and exceptional aging ability.

We have very limited amounts of the below Eisenstone wines, and are currently organising our allocations for the 2021 vintage, due later this year, so please contact us to arrange your allocation today.

About Eisenstone

The Eisenstone philosophy is to establish themselves as specialists of Barossa Valley Shiraz. Stephen Cook, Eisenstone winemaker, wants to make the vineyards the story, and not the winemaker.

He does this by making each wine in exactly the same method, the only difference is in the vineyard/sub-region of which the grapes come from. Stephen works with the farmers of the region to ensure those differences are highlight those difference and show off the flavours the region has to offer.

The Wines

2020 Eisenstone ‘Ebenezer’ Shiraz SR802

96 pts – Huon Hooke (The Real Review): ”Deep dark red-purple colour with a sweet blackberry aroma, traces of dark-chocolate and vanilla, the palate concentrated and fleshy, deep and plush with a big core of fruit sweetness and then alcohol warmth and lashings of supple tannins to conclude. Chocolate again lingers. Superb wine.”

2019 Eisenstone Hoffmann Vineyard Ebenezer Shiraz SV902

95 pts – Decanter: ”Beautiful and creamy vanilla, bay leaf and fruit nose with a palate featuring pure fruits of mulberry and blueberry, violet notes and luxurious sleek tannins, tender and sweet. A wine with harmonious length, it’s an old school classic.”

2020 Eisenstone McDonald Vineyard Marananga Shiraz SV904

97 pts – Huon Hooke (The Real Review): “Deep, dark and very bright purple-red colour, with a lovely detailed aroma of chocolate and herbs, both fresh and dried; floral nuances and red fruits, hints of spices and the palate is very full-bodied and generous with lashings of supple tannins, all in harmony with the great depth of fruit. ”

2020 Eisenstone ‘Marananga’ Shiraz SR804

95 pts – Huon Hooke (The Real Review): “Deep, dense colour with blackberry and smoky char-oak aromas, a touch of tar and ironstone, the palate full-bodied and rich, deep, dense and concentrated, the tannins supple and fleshy-smooth. Delicious wine.”

2019 Eisenstone Roennfeldt Vineyard Marananga Shiraz SV904

96 pts – Decanter: “A beautiful nose of intense liquid blackberry-deep and alluring. The body has sweet succulent fruit, chocolatey flavours and fine, but definitely present tannins. A complex wine of high quality.”
