Full brick-red with most of its purple tints gone, the bouquet is all about licorice, stony mineral/ferrous notes, a suggestion of dried blood. Primary fruit is somewhat subdued, with raisin/licorice nuances strongly evident. The palate is rich in the centre, full-bodied and ample on the tongue with abundant soft, powdery, drying tannins. Very ripe and plush. It's a style, and has its own appeal. (First bottle slightly oxidised; the second was fresher and much better)
