From the Puglia region of Italy and under Diam, this is a powerfully structured, and flavoured, style of white. Some phenolics but there is real intensity and it would be an ideal match for a rich fish dish or something like grilled chicken smothered in onions and mushrooms. Deep straw in colour, there are notes of stone fruits, crushed herbs, figs, florals, peach pits and apricot skins. With the added touch of almond lurking on its lingering finish. A wine with a heap of flavour to it, and one which has been carefully crafted. Lots to like here, especially if you enjoy whites which are not shrinking wallflowers.
91 pts - Jeni Port (Wine Pilot)A Southern Italian that is, as you might expect, immediately relatable. It connects to the drinker with its textural warmth and savoury charm. Offers a scent of citrus, almond skin, apple, pear, preserved lemon and a splash of spice. There is a sense of workmanship on show, of care, as it delves into the Fiano grape seeking out both complexity and richness of expression. The palate is well composed with more apple, pear and citrus nicely tied to creamy oak. Dried herbs, just a touch but enough, offer a background note. It’s a lovely way to finish.
