Stunning Grigio from that big coop at the foothills of the Italian Alps. Tracey picked it blind as a rich Chardonnay, and it’s a good guess because it’s rich and complex, polished and full-bodied. Some of it was matured in oak as well. All the usual suspects are in attendance: the pears and apricots, the ginger spice and the lychees, and a sprinkle of vanilla. It’s all so effortless and seamless. Best PG I’ve enjoyed in quite a while.
90 pts - Ken Gargett (Wine Pilot)Sourced from vineyards at the base of the Italian Alps in the Trentino DOC, this is prime territory for fine Pinot Grigio and the Riserva style just adds to the excitement. Fermentation is in both tanks and small oak barrels. Under diam. Deep yellow, there is an almost banana-like hue here, while the nose gives us tropical notes with stone fruits. Hints of oak influence do emerge and there are touches of pears and dry herbs, as well. This is ripe with a supple texture and is a wine of medium length. For those looking for a worthwhile example of Pinot Grigio from Italy, this is definitely worth trying. Enjoy over the next couple of years.
