This is a terrific Chardonnay from the Maconnais in Burgundy – classic stone fruits and cashews, seamless integration with polished French oak, perfect pitch, tastes like a wine from higher up the Burgundian pecking order.
90 pts - Jeni Port (Wine Pilot)A Chardonnay bright in fruit and fresh acidity and one that builds in the glass. I kept returning to explore its hidden depths. Don’t overchill for aromas of citrus blossom, honeysuckle, yellow peach, lemon zest, mango skin, saline notes and crushed gravel. A solid, all round, good drinking entry point to Burgundy, Mâcon-Villages is well served by this wine. Buttery in texture, it explores citrus, peach, herbal lemon verbena and preserved lemon against a background of crushed gravel and keen acidity on the back palate. Maybe not particularly complex (you need to go up the AOC ladder for that), but it ticks a lot of good drinking boxes. NOTE: Terres Secrètes or secret lands in English is a fitting name for the wines of a collective of winegrowers farming in the Mâconnais sub-region of southern Burgundy.
