First, some background on this unique variety from the foothills of the Alps at Trentino. It’s a complex wine that combines red and black fruits with notes of smoked meats and warm earth, coffee grounds and wild herbs in the mix. That said, there’s enough polish to keep it all hanging together.
92 pts - Ken Gargett (Wine Pilot)Teroldego Is an Italian red variety found usually in the Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol districts. Recent research suggests that in genetic terms, it might just be an uncle to our own Shiraz. The colour here is a deep blood red. On the nose, we have notes of leather, an earthiness, mushrooms, redcurrants, coffee grinds, stewed plums, roast meats and a veritable herb garden. Quite a rustic style, this is layered and well-focused, leading to sleek tannins on a supple texture. The palate sees the emergence of notes of aniseed and cold tea. The wine has good length and should be enjoyed over the next eight years, over which period, it will continue to improve.
