Deep and saturated red-purple colour; strong dark chocolate aroma with vanilla and black fruit flavours, earth, ironstone and graphite notes, the palate full-bodied and gritty with stony tannins and a firm, vise-like grip but not astringent. A stern and sturdy shiraz.
94 pts - Erin Larkin (Robert Parker Wine Advocate)The 2021 Marananga Shiraz is populated by red and purple fruit as is the wont of the area. The oak feels malty and wheaty set against this backdrop, but it's a good kind. It'll marble into the flesh of the fruit in time. I like this wine. It's humungous, but it feels good—complete and authentic. It's big but savory—the balance of tannin and sweet fruit is crucial to the overall picture. The dark and shade is like a chiaroscuro in this piece; the dark is black, and the light is luminous. This is a lovely wine here. It's a behemoth. Did I mention that already? 1,200 bottles filled. 14.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. Published: Aug 25, 2023
