The Lagrein is indigenous to the valleys of Trentino. The wines tend to be deeply coloured and have intense berry-fruit flavours. They often feel a touch rustic (especially if not given time to settle prior to release, with or without the help of oak barrels), have a slight taste of iodine, or saltiness. This wine is deep ruby red, and shows attractive blackcurrant and wild raspberry aromas with touches of eucalyptus and liquorice. It’s reasonably full-bodied with well mannered tannins, and has dark chocolate and graphite characters along with light notes of spicy cedar.
