A terrific expression, the enticing bouquet shows dark fruit intensity, roasted nut, tar, game and brown spice characters. The concentrated palate delivers plump mouthfeel and silky texture, superbly structured by layers of fine tannins, finishing wonderfully sturdy and persistent. At its best: now to 2036.
94 pts - Andrew Graham (Oz Wine Review)DJ Derek came to visit me with a whole swag of wines in tow, his lineup again reminding me how good the Paisley range is for very few dollars (the 2022 Turntable GSM is absolutely good value for money). He’s such an honest winemaker who I think underprices his round and generous wines. This Maeve is a prime example. The fruit alone is A+, coming from Adrian Hoffman’s fabled vineyard at Ebenezer, with a little of the best Shiraz fruit from Derek & Kirsten’s home vineyard in the Eden Valley. It’s a wonderfully luscious, mouth-filling, hedonistic, absolute Barossan Shiraz that I could still taste minutes after finishing it. That’s what I admire here – the sort of length that if it had a Penfolds label it could command $500. bottle. A little Googling wil tell you what other wines made in a similar vein from similar fruit go for, and yet Derek sells this for $50. Astonishing.
