Deep red-purple colour leads into a bright berry and mint bouquet, fruit driven, with earthy ferrous northern Barossa character tucked into the background, the berry fruit leading the way. Full bodied, with softly drying tannins and lovely balance. A more elegant iteration of northern Barossa shiraz.
93 pts - Ken Gargett (Wine Pilot SA Guide)The grapes here hail from the Micken Block, which is part of the Hoffmann's Ebenezer Vineyard which is younger plantings of iconic old vines. The wine sees maturation in French oak for 20 months, 50% of that oak bein new. 2200 bottles made. The colour is a magenta/maroon hue. The nose is oozing chocolate and mocha, with miso, coffee beans and soy, along with notes of tobacco leaves and black fruits. There is a delightfully supple texture here. The oak is superbly handled, the acidity bright and the structure seamless. A wine of very good length and balance with sleek tannins. A very fine Barossa Valley Shiraz which will continue to impress for at least the next eight to 10 years.
