Light years away from the typical Syrah/Shiraz we enjoy locally. Not that there is anything wrong with that. This is indeed a bit special. From the Montagne de Ventabren region. Under Diam. Black/maroon in hue, the wine opens with hints of toasty oak. The nose reveals an array of aromas including black fruits, bay leaves, animal skins, fried liver and dried herbs. Supple and seamless with good intensity leading to silky tannins, this is a cracking wine. It will easily handle ten to fifteen years in the cellar, providing pleasure over that period. Love it
94 pts - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)Deep, red with a good tint of purple, the bouquet fresh and smoky, charcoal/ashy, stemmy, indicating a high pecentage of whole-bunch fermentation and plenty of oak. The aroma of charred timber in a cold fireplace. The wine is elegant and stylish, savoury and spicy/humus-like, in classic Northern Rhône style. A twist of bitterness in the aftertaste doesn't concern. An extreme style in terms of bunchiness, but it's well done.
