The Richardson Vineyard lies on the boundary between Greenock and Moppa and marks the shift from deep loamy soils to outcrops of quarts and fractured ironstone. The vineyard was dry grown for many years but is steadily being revitalised since Brett and Elaine took over the property. The grapes for this wine come from the stonier soils of the “Top” block and the best parcel and barrels are reserved for the Goldfeld.
The grapes were fermented in small batches and after fermentation was matured in 50% new French oak for 20 months prior to bottling. Minimal intervention is used in the winemaking process and the wine is moved the minimal times prior to bottling and is not cold stabilised or filtered.
Color: Deep ruby red.
Nose: Blueberry, raspberry, vanilla and dark chocolate.
Palate: Full and weighty, velveteen as it glides across the tongue with a density and power that fills every corner of the palate. Notes of red berries and vanilla with persistent tannins, with depth and power.
